Hi! I'm Suzy, an undergraduate studying Computer Science at the University of Southern California. I build machine-learning systems and research software that help scientists work with data at scale.
Since October 2024 I have been an undergraduate researcher in the Cooray Group at UC Irvine, advised by Prof. Asantha Cooray, working on the ESA/NASA Euclid space telescope mission. I designed and built AgileLens, an end-to-end CNN pipeline that sifts 100 GB+ of Euclid imaging for strong gravitational lenses. It surfaced 130 previously unknown high-confidence lens candidates and became my first-author paper in Astronomy & Astrophysics. Along the way I've built tools that researchers use every day: a human-in-the-loop annotation tool, a searchable galaxy-object database, a RAG assistant over project docs, and reusable modules now used by 20+ collaborators at NASA, Caltech/JPL and the U.S. Euclid team.
I'm broadly interested in:
- Scientific ML & AI for science: learning from large-scale scientific and biomedical imaging
- Research software: data-intensive pipelines and human-in-the-loop tools for researchers
- Simulation & scientific computing, with applications in physical sciences, climate & sustainability, and health
I also enjoy building production systems. Most recently I was a backend software engineering intern at Philo Homes, an AI room-design startup, where I migrated the platform from GCP to AWS and cut cloud cost by 40%.
